Description from Jen and Beji:

"In 2013, we did a bike tour down the coast from Seattle to San Diego. The trip was 2 months long covering about 1900 miles and brought us from Benji's hometown of Seattle to Jen's in Southern California.
Having recently moved to Minneapolis, we found ourselves stuck in the harshest winter season Minnesota has experienced in decades. What a perfect time to hunker down and write a zine about sunnier days!
This zine is about our experiences individually and together, as People of Color, as small and not particularly athletic people, for Jen as a queer woman, and as people who have felt discouraged about doing something like this. But we did it!
We wanted share our story, and also hopefully encourage other people to take a chance and do something like this too.

Inside, you will find stories, reflections, and tips for bike touring, along with lots of photos and collages!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Care instructions

For patches, to avoid fraying of edges, please sew edges tight.
For BLACK shirts, please machine wash cold inside-out for prolonged life of designs.

Current fabric being used for patches?

As of November 2016, I'm using a durable twill. Like all other forms of fabric, it is prone to fray if improperly sewn and with repeated washes. As is the nature for most punk-style cloth patches.

Why do your patches cost so much? It's just cheap fabric and spray-paint.

No, it's not. And the reason it costs so much is due to the Etsy/PayPal fees associated with each sale. If I charge any less, I get more orders a week than what I ship out. This may seem great from a business standpoint, but being the only person behind FoxAlive for the past five years, I'm tired of always playing catch up on orders when I'm not being forced to justify shipping times (seriously, imagine getting off your main job just to get home to more work). What I charge now for patches (specifically small patches which are ~80% of my sales) no longer takes into account material alone, but also my own time and energy.

Okay, then why does shipping cost more than an actual patch? Stamps are like 50 cents and this other shop only charges a dollar for small patches to ship.

You are not paying $4 for stamp. Even when your order only consists of a single patch, I still have to pay ~$3 in shipping for USPS tracking - not including Etsy fees attached to each sale. And though they are cheaper for both parties, I no longer offer "Forever Stamp" shipments due to how often those sales have ended badly.

I live nearby to Orange. Can I just come by your place and buy from you directly?

Hell no.

Q: Do you plan to make any more ____ patches?

If a patch I make is sold out, I either haven't had the time to renew the listing, or stopped making it because it is not an original piece and the artist/band could not be contacted for permission. And I don't like going behind artists backs for a buck, especially if they're still active and selling their own merch to continue doing what they do.

How long until I get my order? I live close/in California, will it still be X weeks?

Processing times not only reflect order volume and distance, but also personal circumstances.

As stated numerous times through-out the shop, FoxAlive is a solo operation run by ONE PERSON - not a collective - in over his head. Apart from the distro, I also work 48-96 hour weeks at my main job, go to school full-time, and happen to be a human being with dreams and goals beyond making patches and shirts.

I try to have stuff out asap, but considering I also deal with on/off depression, and wrist problems, I can only dedicate so much time to FoxAlive before my wrist burns out or I start feeling like I only exist to serve capitalism. So the X amount of weeks in processing time isn't meant to keep me lazy as it is to keep Fox, well, alive.

Can you make *this* patch bigger/smaller?

All design sizes are final. Unless you want to pay $50 for a custom order.

Can you make me a custom shirt/patch/button?

Yes, of course! I actually have a couple listings designated for shirts, patches, and buttons with step-by-step instructions on how to place an order. Please be aware, if you commit to an order, you are giving me a 30 dollar non-refundable deposit for my time in designing and/or prepping a screen for your custom order.

I sent you an email but have not heard back. Why are you ignoring me?

As stated everywhere in the shop, I do not use personal email for communication regarding Etsy Orders, and prefer Etsy's own email system. This is due to the large amount of spam I get on a daily basis and how my emails spam filter automatically flags most customers emails as spam. If you have an issue and exclusively try contacting me via email, I will not be able to help you as I most likely did not get your email.

Q: I know shipping says 1-4 weeks, but what's average?

A: 1-4 weeks.
